HISTORY & THE BOATS:
HIRONDELLE
----------
Hirondelle was constructed as a 27 metre cargo barge at
Hoogerand in the Netherlands in 1928 and was originally named
Vios. She was later lengthened to 38.5 metres in order to
increase her tonnage and her cargo capacity. This, combined
with her 5.5 metre beam, now makes her the larges size of
barge able to fid in to the canal locks. She was brought to
France and was converted by Afloat in France to welcome
passengers in 1992 when her name changed to Hirondelle.

The comfortable cabins (130 sq feet) are located above the
water line and have individually controlled air-conditioning.
One cabin has a double bed, and three cabins have twin beds.
Wash basins are located either in the cabin or ensuite
bathroom. Sockets are suitable for 2 pin plus, 220 volts.
There is a 220 volt shaver socket in the bedroom. (Plus and
adapters are available on request). Hair dryers are provided
in each cabin.

The Salon has large windows well above the water line,
which afford good views of the countryside. Meals are served
in the dining area or al fresco depending on the weather.
Sun deck loungers and umbrellas are provided.

NAPOLEON
--------
Napoleon was converted from the hull of a commercial freight-
carrying barge built in Belgium in 1963. She was one of the
last commercial barges to have been built. The hull was
purchased in Belgium and converted in a small shipyard in
Bruges. The woodwork was carried out by British ship's
carpenters in Belgium The various systems incorporated in the
ship come from several European countries. The Napoleon was
launched in May 1991 as a passenger vessel and joined the
Afloat in France feet in 1995 after further refurbishment.

The comfortable cabins (150 sq feet) are all located above
the water line and have individually controlled air-conditioning
The beds are king size doubles, which can be arranged as twins
if desired. Sockets are suitable for 2 pin plugs, 220 volts.
(Plug adapters are available on request). Hair dryers are
provided in each cabin. The cabins contain individual DVD
players and a small selection of DVDs is available in the salon.
The en-suite bathrooms are fitted with a pedestal basin, a
shower stall, and a flush pumped WC.

The Salon is beautifully furnished and has large windows well
above the water line, which afford good views of the
countryside. Meals are served in the separate dining roon on
the top deck or al fresco depending on the weather.

Large canopy over part of the deck provides a shaded dining
area and covers some sun loungers and an exercise bike. There
is also a heated Jacuzzi and more sun loungers on the open deck.
